Through five games Jordan Sherit was playing the best football of his career. It now looks as if Sherit may have played the last down of his career with the Florida Gators.
Sherit went down in the fourth quarter and needed the help of two trainers to get off the field before he was carted back into the locker room with a hip injury.
“It looks like it may head into surgery shortly,” Jim McElwain said after the game.
Sherit has battled injured throughout his career. He tore his ACL during his senior season of high school, which led to a redshirt for his freshman season at Florida in 2013. He missed three of the last four games in 2014 and missed the end of last season with another knee injury that required surgery.
Through the first six games Sherit led the team with nine quarterback hurries was second in sacks but his biggest role was off the field. As a redshirt senior who was producing on the field, Sherit earned the respect and admiration of his peers. He was a voice to calm players when things were bad and a guy that didn’t have any issue calling players out when they needed to be. He was a leader on a team that desperately needs leadership after two losses.
“It’s gonna impact us a lot because his leadership and his football knowledge and just the great guy that he is,” starting defensive end CeCe Jefferson said. “You know, I don’t know how serious the injury is with him but — it’s gonna impact us a lot but prayers out for J Sherit.”
