Ivey doesn’t plan to announce on Saturday

The Florida Gators were hoping to get some good news on Saturday as offensive lineman Martez Ivey (6-5, 271, Apopka, FL High) was scheduled to announce his decision at the Army All-American but that plan seems to have changed according to Ivey.

“No. I’m pretty sure I’m not announcing Saturday now,” Ivey said. “I’m going to wait a little bit. I’m going to wait for some in-home visits with Florida, Auburn and LSU.”

One thing going for Florida is that Ivey grew up pulling for Florida and it’s close to home so Ivey’s family can attend games.

“Florida, that’s my dream school,” Ivey said. “Growing up in Florida, I’ve just been a Florida fan. The atmosphere and that feeling I get from being in Gainesville is great.”

One of new Florida head coach Jim McElwain’s first in-home visits was used to see Ivey and his family and according to Ivey the meeting went well.

“I met with Coach McElwain a few weeks ago,” Ivey said. “I haven’t really met with any of the other members of the new coaching staff. I don’t know any of them yet. I like Coach McElwain. He’s very straight-up and a very straightforward guy who gets straight to the point. There’s no BS. He’s got to come in and change the program.”

Florida and Auburn have been the top two schools for Ivey for months now and the Tigers have one of his best friends Chandler Cox committed to them but Ivey says that doesn’t play a factor into his decision.

“It’s my decision, just like it was Chandler’s decision to commit to Auburn,” Ivey said. “I do like Auburn though because of the coaching staff and the players and how they get along together. They’re all great guys. That’s one amazing coaching staff and there’s a family atmosphere there. That’s just like my program at my house.”

Whenever Ivey does decide to make his decision the offensive tackle has an idea of what will factor into his college decision.
“The main factor is being comfortable,” Ivey said. “Anywhere I go, I’m going to play great football and have the opportunity to get a great education, so it’s just about being comfortable.”

INSIDERS TAKE: Ivey could still decide to commit on Saturday but whether or not he does I still expect the Florida Gators to land the big offensive tackle.
