Typically, quarterbacks are among the first players to commit every year due to the fact that most schools only take one quarterback in each recruiting class. This year quarterback Torrance Gibson (6-4, 195, Plantation, FL American Heritage) says he plans to buck that trend and wait a while before he makes any kind of decision.
“A lot of people tell me they want me to commit early but I’m not going too,” Gibson said. “I tell everyone that I’m going to wait it out and visit schools and pick the best school for me and my future and not rush a decision. I have to do what’s best for me.”
Florida has offered Gibson and is waiting on a decision. Gibson, meanwhile, has had conversations with Florida’s new offensive coordinator Kurt Roper about the move to a hurry-up, spread offense.
“I talked to Coach Roper about his offense a little,” Gibson said. “He wants me to get up to Florida and sit down and break down film with him and go over more of the offense in person with him. I plan to visit Florida sometime this spring or summer.”
When Gibson isn’t talking to offensive coordinator Kurt Roper from Florida he’s talking to the head coach and his area recruiter, Travaris Robinson.
“Coach T-Rob and Coach (Will) Muschamp both talk to me a lot,” Gibson said. “I really don’t have a main recruiter at Florida because everyone talks to me. They don’t have a direct message to me except for checking up on me and seeing how I’m doing and small stuff like that.”
After Gibson has the chance to visit schools he will sit down and narrow his options down and he knows what factors will play into his decision.
“I want to see academics at every school first,” Gibson said. “After that I’m looking for a great coaching staff that can teach me the game and how the campus life is at each school. I want to find a team that is a family first and foremost.”

Sounds like he is smart. I wouldn’t believe anything the coaches say until there is proof on the field. Roper can say he’ll do this or that but we we and any recruit won’t know until the fourth game of the season and afterwards. Then we’ll know if the Gators will again finish in triple digits on offense or break out from the rut they’ve been in for three years. Both Weiss and Pease were successful before they came to Gainesville, like Roper, but the result was dismal. I am just saying that it would not be prudent to listen to what someone is selling without some evidence to back it up. That doesn’t mean looking at Duke, it means looking at UF.
