Florida Gators chasing 2017 Miami Hurricanes commit

2017 Miami Hurricanes tight end commit Tre McKitty (6-4, 225, Bradenton, FL IMG Academy) was on the Florida Gators campus last week and he returned once again on Friday night.

McKitty didn’t participate in the camp portion of Friday Night Lights, but he did meet with all of the coaches and some of the current players while he was on campus.

“I just wanted to hang out with the coaches more,” McKitty said on why he visited Florida on Friday. “I wanted to talk to them a little more about everything at Florida and I wanted to see some of the guys work out.”

Defensive line coach Chris Rumph has led the charge in McKity’s recruitment and the prospect likes how hard Rumph and the staff have been recruiting him.

“They are recruiting me pretty hard right now,” he said. “They just want me to keep coming up on visits and to come be a Gator when I sign for college.”

McKitty committed to the Miami Hurricanes back in June, but he admits that Florida is running neck and neck with the Canes right now.

“Florida has been a dream school of mine since I was little,” McKitty said of why he likes Florida. “I have a really good relationship with the coaches. Coach Rumph especially and besides Miami they are at the top of my list.”

Not only does McKitty have a good relationship with the staff but he also likes how Florida plans to use him in its system.

“I love the atmosphere at the Swamp,” he said. “This new coaching staff is great at Florida and they have just been telling me how they could use me here. They want to use me all over the field and as a every down tight end.”

Florida Gators head coach Jim McElwain has been at Florida for a little over six months now and McKitty said he has already seen how hard McElwain works and he thinks it’s paying off for the Gators.

“I think he’s doing a great job at Florida,” McKitty said of McElwain. “He’s a doing a good job in recruiting and he’s getting a lot of commits. I really like what he’s doing at Florida.”

You can bet that McElwain will continue recruiting McKitty hard, and he says that is a key to getting him to flip at this time.

“Just keep coming at me hard,” he said. “Miami, Florida, Auburn and Ohio State are the schools coming at me the hardest right now.”

INSIDERS TAKE: McKitty is someone to watch closely this coming fall as he plans to attend several of Florida’s games this year and he has a really good relationship with area recruiter Chris Rumph.
