Gators add a big commit on Thursday

The Florida Gators landed commitment No. 10 on Thursday afternoon and it’s a big one, both literally and figuratively, as offensive lineman Stone Forsythe (6-7, 331, Winter Garden, FL West Orange) made the call to the Gators staff.

“Officially committed to the University of Florida,” Forsythe said on Twitter.

Forsythe who has been waiting for an offer from Florida for years finally picked one up on Monday afternoon when he heard the news from defensive coordinator Geoff Collins.

“It’s very exciting because they have been my team growing up as a kid,” Forsythe said of the offer on Monday. “Florida is the school closest to me and I have a chance to play as a freshman there.”

Now that Forsythe has committed to Florida he plans to enroll early in Gainesville next December as he knows that Florida is need of linemen as the Gators currently have just six offensive linemen on scholarship.

“It’s a dream come true to play for Florida and get to play in The Swamp,” Forsythe told Gator Country.

Forsythe joins receivers Isaiah Johnson and Rick Wells and athlete Tyrek Tisdale as prospects committed to Florida in the class of 2016 on the offensive side of the ball.

Florida is trying to get five to six offensive linemen in the class of 2016 so Forsythe is a good first piece to the class and the Gators will look to continue to add to the class with some more instate guys like Parker Boudreaux and Marcus Tatum.

  1. Thanks Andrew, very good reporter and this is excellent reporting. I was going to post a comment on the hiring of Jenny Rowland as new gymnastics coach. I follow every sport Florida Plays and I don’t like for them to lose in any sport. The comment I wanted to make is about a comment Foley made that “Hiring” is his job and that is right to a degree. His Job includes much more than Hiring.
Along with millions of other Gator fans I still am convinced he was the reason Steve Spurrier, the ole Ball Coach left Florida.. I am convinced Jeremy was jealous of the adoration for Coach Spurrier. Had the ole Ball Coach stayed at Florida his entire career he would have been a bigger legend in the SEC than Bear Bryant. Foley should have problems sleeping over the mistake he made of not making a great effort to keep the ole Ball Coach. Foley did not care for Spurrier and I don’t think the ole Ball Coach cared too much for him either. I will go to my grave believing Foley caused our beloved Football Player and Coach as a Gator to finally say “the heck with it I am gone”
