Forsythe has heavy interest in Florida

The Florida Gators might start hanging posters saying “offensive linemen needed” if things get any worse in Gainesville. The Gators took another hit to their offensive line depth with Rod Johnson’s career-ending injury and the Florida coaching staff is putting a huge emphasis on recruiting the position.

Last weekend one of the top instate offensive linemen Stone Forsythe (6-7, 331, Winter Garden, FL West Orange) visited Florida for the third this spring and he saw how much the spring has helped the team.

“It was pretty good,” Forsythe said. “We just watched the practice/spring game, it was pretty good. I had watched practice before and it was a big improvement from them so it was good to see.”

Forsythe admits that he spent much of his time watching the offensive line play but he liked the offense in general.

“The offense looked pretty good out there,” Forsythe said. “They were throwing the ball around a lot and moving the ball pretty good. The play calling was pretty balanced between run and pass. The linemen do some good stuff but they need more depth.”

The Florida native is still hoping to pick up a Florida offer and offensive line coach Mike Summers talked to him about that on Saturday.

“I talked to [coach] Summers a little bit,” Forsythe said. “He said that they are going to come watch me a couple times this spring so that they can evaluate me. I think he wants to watch me before he offers me or anything like that.”

Head coach Jim McElwain has also been talking to Forsythe as of late and the message has been simple as Forsythe believes in the Gators new coaching staff.

“Coach McElwain told me that he would love to see me in the Orange and Blue one day,” Forsythe said. “He’s a really good guy and I’ve had the opportunity to get to know him pretty well. Really all of the coaches bring a lot of energy to the team and they have a different atmosphere around there then last year.”

Despite not having an offer from Florida, the offensive lineman still has a lot of interest in Florida and admits an offer from the Gators would be huge.

“Florida would move on top if they offered me,” Forsythe said. “Right now I would say Kentucky is standing out the most but I’m trying to keep all of my options right now. I plan to camp at Florida this summer.”

INSIDERS TAKE: An offer from Florida would most likely lead to a commitment from Forsythe and while he may not have a five star rating he’s a very solid player that can play inside or outside in college.
