The Gators missed out on safety Jamal Adams in the Class of 2014, which means Florida will be looking for at least one safety in the Class of 2015.
One of the top safeties in the southeast is safety Rashad Roundtree (6-1, 195 Evans, GA Lakeside) who picked up an offer from the Gators recently.
“Florida offered me two weeks ago,” Roundtree said. “Coach (Will) Muschamp offered me and he was just telling me that he liked the way I played and that he would like to have me as a player down at Florida in two years.”
Roundtree hasn’t visited Florida before but he’s well aware of what Will Muschamp has done with past safeties at Florida.
“I like Florida’s defenses a lot,” Roundtree said. “They have put a lot of past safeties into the NFL like Matt Elam from the Ravens. I like to watch their safeties play in the style of defense they run and the safeties make a lot of plays.”
The style of defense that Muschamp and defensive coordinator D.J. Durkin have developed at Florida is something that Roundtree believes helps safeties.
“I like their physical style of defense that coach Muschamp coaches,” Roundtree said. “I know that he knows how important defensive backs are because he coaches the position and he knows how to utilize the safety position.”
Despite picking up a Gators offer from Muschamp the Georgia safety has never met Florida’s head coach before but that is something that should happen soon.
“Coach Muschamp was supposed to me visit me last Friday but he couldn’t make it,” Roundtree said. “He said he would be by this week sometime to visit me instead though. He didn’t say what day or anything like that though.”
After Muschamp meets with Roundtree this week the Georgia native will return the favor to Gainesville as soon as this weekend.
“I’m trying to make it to Florida this weekend for the junior day on Saturday,” Roundtree said.
