Florida offers a LB with ties to FSU

Ever since Will Muschamp got to Florida he has been very active in recruiting underclassmen and getting them early offers from the Gators.

That trend is continuing as Florida offered 2016 linebacker Devin Bush Jr (6-0, 206, Pembroke Pines, Fl. Flanagan) a few weeks and he also received a message about his ability when he got the Gators offer.

“Coach [Will] Muschamp was the coach that told me I had the offer,” Bush said. “He was mostly telling me how he liked my style, he said it’s really rare to see someone my size have my kind of speed. He said that he likes my passion for the game and that I have what it takes to help his program at the next level.”

Bush, whose father is a football coach, is a student of the game and he knows quite a few things about Florida’s football program.

“It was a big offer and a local offer,” Bush said. “If you look at the program and the history of the program they have produced a lot of great players from the school that have moved onto the NFL so I feel like it’s big. Florida is a good program.”

One other thing that Bush knows is that the Gators usually have a top defense and during his conversation with Muschamp he learned about how he would fit into the Florida defense if he chooses Florida in 2016.

“Coach Muschamp said that he sees me fitting in at Mike and Will linebacker,” Bush said. “He said that I can fill those spots and fit in really well there. He said that I can drop back into coverage as well as make tackles in the running game.”

Bush’s father played for Florida State but the younger Bush says that won’t play a factor into his recruitment. In fact, he does know one visit he wants to take and it’s to the Noles’ arch-rival.

“I’m still learning about all schools right now,” Bush said. “I really want to get up to Florida and sit down and learn more about the school and program. I want to learn about Gainesville too but I just have to get time to get up there.”

Three schools have taken the approach of recruiting Bush hard early in his recruitment but that doesn’t give them an advantage according to the linebacker.

“I’m still pretty wide open in my recruitment,” Bush said. “UCLA, UAB and South Carolina are the schools that are recruiting me the hardest at this point in my recruitment.”

INSIDER TAKE: Bush was very excited about getting the Florida offer from Muschamp and he spoke highly of Muschamp’s defense. Bush said his father doesn’t talk about Florida State a lot to him and that his dad playing there won’t influence his decision. Also FSU hasn’t offered Bush yet so an offer from FSU could change things there.

  1. Who knows, Clemson got a commitment from an FSU legacy, Garrett Williams, this year, but That’s Clemson, not another in-state school. I think it’s a lot different if a legacy from a FSU or Florida signed with their arch rival. That’s a big difference. I can’t recall it happening at either school, and if it did, it may be because the father’s school didn’t offer.
