The Gators spent a lot of time last week visiting prospects in the Northeast but they also spent some time in Texas evaluating underclassmen.
One prospect that the Gators watched was 2016 offensive tackle Greg Little (6-6, 280, Allen, TX High) who received good news on Monday night.
“Coach [Kurt] Roper the offensive coordinator offered me a scholarship to Florida,” Little said. “Basically he was just telling me that Florida liked the way I played and they liked the Allen High School guys because they know we come from a good program. Coach Roper said that he thinks that I’m a good player and a good fit for them.”
When Roper was by his school last week he didn’t get the chance to speak to Little but he payed close attention to him during practice.
“Coach Roper actually came by my school last week and he talked to my offensive coordinator,” Little said. “I know that he watched us practice and stuff but I didn’t get the chance to meet him or talk to him. My offensive coordinator just told me to call him so I did and that’s when he offered me a scholarship.”
Little who has offers from all over the country said he felt blessed to receive an offer from Florida on Monday and called it an honor.
“It’s an honor to get an offer from Florida, truly it is,” Little said. “It’s a great honor to say you have an offer from Florida. It’s a really good school and a lot of great players have come through the school in the past.”
The Texas native who is regarded as the top player in the country by some for the 2016 recruiting class says that his interest in Florida is legitimate and he wants to visit Gainesville.
“I have a lot of interest in them and I definitely want to visit them sometime,” Little said. “I’m talking to my mom about it and I will try to get out there this summer. I don’t know much about them so I will use the visit to learn more about them. Really the only thing I know about them right now is that Emmitt Smith went there.”
With Little being the No. 1 ranked player in the country, the offers are going to continue to come in for him and he plans to wait a while to make any kind of decision.
“I’m pretty open in my recruitment right now,” he said. “I haven’t really taken many visits or really put much thought into my recruitment yet. Right now I’m just taking everything in and seeing all of my options.”
