Florida Offensive Recruiting Board

With summer camps over and football season starting this week, Gator Country is going to break down the 2014 prospect board.

On the prospect board, we will tell you where the Gators stand with prospects that they are actively recruiting.

First up is the offensive side of the ball, where the Gators currently have six commitments in the Class of 2014.

QUARTERBACK: Need 1/1 Committed

Davidson (N.C.) Day quarterback Will Grier

Grier is solid to Florida and plans to enroll early at Florida in January. The Under Armour All-American is actively recruiting several players to the Gators and has emerged as a leader of this class with Dalvin Cook.

Florida is not actively recruiting any other quarterbacks.

RUNNING BACK: Need 1-2/1 Committed

Miami (Fla.) Central running back Dalvin Cook

Cook is solid to Florida and is out recruiting for Florida every day. Cook has taken some visits to other schools, but he has given the Florida staff no reason to worry.

Gainesville (Fla.) High running back Tony James

The Gainesville native has visited Florida several times and has the Gators high on his list. Right now, Florida isn’t ready to move on James but he is someone that the staff could offer later in the process.

Oakley (Ca.) Freedom running back Joe Mixon

Mixon recently named a top 10 that included Florida but the 6-foot-2, 210-pound Mixon has yet to visit the Gators. Until Mixon visits Gainesville, the chances of landing him are slim.

Tuscaloosa (Al.) County running back Bo Scarbrough

The Alabama commit was supposed to visit for Friday Night Lights but was told by the Crimson Tide staff not too. The chances for Scarbrough are decreasing, but the Gators won’t give up on him.

Right now I lean towards Florida only taking one running back unless something changes with Bo Scarbrough.

RECEIVERS: Need 2-3/0 Committed

Mount Pleasant (Tx.) High receiver KD Cannon

The 5-foot-10, 163-pound Cannon is best friends with Jamal Adams and many believe if the Gators land Adams, that Florida’s chances with Cannon would be very good. Right now Cannon is considered a Baylor-lean.

West Palm Beach (Fla.) Dwyer receiver Johnnie Dixon

Dixon is considered an Alabama/Miami battle but Dixon is listening to Florida and has said he would possibly visit this fall. If the Gators miss on some of their top prospects, they will turn up the heat up on Dixon.

Homestead (Fla.) High receiver Ermon Lane

The 6-foot-2, 172-pound Lane is the top receiver on Florida’s board and he is expected to announce his decision soon. Lane is considered a Florida lean, and is good friends with Dalvin Cook and Quincy Wilson. Securing a commitment from Lane will help the class tremendously.

Gallatin (Tn.) Station Camp receiver Josh Malone

For the longest time it seemed like Malone was a lock to Tennessee but now it appears the Vols are out of contention. Malone visited Florida in July with his mother and the visit went very well for his mom, Rebecca. Academics are very important to the family and is something Florida has an advantage in. Georgia is considered to be Florida’s toughest competition for Malone.

West Palm Beach (Fla.) Cardinal Newman receiver Travis Rudolph

Rudolph was considered a heavy Florida lean for a long time but recently has opened things up. The 6-foot, 189-pound Rudolph has visited Florida several times and has good relationships with several of the South Florida guys.

Tarpon Springs (Fla.) East Lake receiver Artavis Scott

Scott committed to Clemson in July but that doesn’t mean the Gators are going to give up on him. The 5-foot-11, 180-pound Scott is a prospect that Will Muschamp and his staff will continue to pursue until National Signing Day.

TIGHT END: Need 2/1 Committed

Tuscaloosa (Al.) Kingwood Christian tight end C’yontia Lewis

Lewis is a Florida commit and remains very solid to the Gators. The one thing that could cause his commitment to be shaky would be an Alabama offer, but that doesn’t seem likely, as Lewis camped at Alabama and didn’t earn the offer.

Derby (Ks.) High tight end Deandre Goolsby

The 6-foot-4, 225-pound Goolsby is the top tight end remaining on the Florida board at the moment. Goolsby loved his summer trip to Florida and says he will be back this fall. The one thing in Florida’s favor for Goolsby is he loves the state of Florida and wants to move away from Kansas.

Arizona Western College tight end Josh McNeil

McNeil, if you remember, was a top target for Florida last year but the Gators didn’t feel he would qualify and he ultimately didn’t. The Gators feel that McNeil still has work to do to qualify but if his academics are in order and the Gators need another tight end, McNeil could be an option.

OFFENSIVE LINE: Need 5-6/3 Committed

Philadelphia (Pa.) Germantown offensive lineman Dontae Angus

The 6-foot-6, 330-pound Angus committed to Florida in late July and says he will shut down the process. Angus has yet to visit Florida but he’s solid to the Gators and is a prospect the staff is fired up about.

Jacksonville (Fla.) Raines offensive lineman Travaris Dorsey

Dorsey is a solid Florida commitment and hasn’t waved at all since committing. Right now, there is no reason to worry about Dorsey.

Mount Pleasant (S.C.) Wando offensive lineman Nolan Kelleher

Kelleher is set to make his decision on August the 10th and it’s a two horse race between Florida and Clemson. Most believe Kelleher will head to Clemson but, when Gator Country spoke to his mother, she raved about their trip to Gainesville. Kelleher is a prospect that can play anywhere on the line at 6-foot-6, 285-pounds.

Deland (Fla.) High offensive lineman Benjamin Knox

Knox didn’t visit Florida for Friday Night Lights and has visited South Florida several times this spring. Right now the 6-foot-5, 265-pound Knox is in the class, but his spot isn’t safe at the moment.

Forestville (Md.) Bishop McNamara offensive lineman Damian Prince

The 6-foot-5, 292-pound Prince was considered to be a guy that was going to stay close to home but that no longer seems to be a lock. Ohio State was in good shape for Prince, but with their recent additions to their class things are getting tight. Florida is trying hard to get Prince on campus soon and if they do, things will get interesting for the Gators.

Jacksonville (Fla.) Providence offensive lineman David Sharpe

Sharpe has been very quiet this summer and hasn’t taken any visits since he visited Florida this spring. Sharpe says he wants to make a decision this fall and he plans to visit Florida for a fall practice. Things are looking good for Florida and Sharpe right now.

Homewood (Al.) High offensive lineman Jordan Sims

The Alabama native is a prospect that everyone had penciled in to Alabama, but Sims went to the Crimson Tide’s  camp and wasn’t very happy with the staff there. Florida is working to get him on campus soon.

St. Petersburg (Fla.) Lakewood offensive lineman Isaiah Wynn

The 6-foot-2, 269-pound Wynn is committed to Georgia but the Gators will not stop recruiting him. Wynn is close to Dante Fowler and will be a prospect that Muschamp will continue recruiting.

Note: This is not all of the prospects that are on Florida’s board and more will be added as the season goes. This is Gator Country’s offensive board to keep an eye on.
