Florida leads for Williams

Dexter Williams (5-11, 170, Orlando, FL Olympia) went to the Nike Sparq Combine two weeks ago hoping to get noticed. Williams was perhaps the top player at the entire combine and it got the attention of the Florida Gators.

“Coach (Brian) White from Florida offered me last week,” Williams said. “He was telling me that he wants me to come up for junior day and he wants to get started building a relationship with me. He wants me to be a Gator and he knows that my dad is a Gator fan and that Gator blood runs through my family.”

After receiving the offer from the Gators, Williams says Florida stands alone on top of his recruiting list.

“Florida is leading a little bit,” Williams said. “I actually grew up a FSU fan for a while but after I got older I realized that Florida is where it’s at. After that I’ve been watching all of the Florida running backs on film like Emmitt Smith and now I’m watching Kelvin Taylor do his thing at Florida.”

When White offered Williams last week it wasn’t the first time the two have talked. This is a relationship that has been developing for some time now.

“Me and Coach White have been talking for a while now,” Williams said. “We not only talk about football but we just have regular conversations about life. We talk like we have known each for a long time or something.”

Next weekend will be a big one in the advancement of this relationship as Williams will be in Gainesville on an unofficial visit.

“I’m going to visit for junior day this weekend,” Williams said. “I’m looking to tour the campus and see what Florida has to offer academic wise and football wise and how they run their program there. I just want to see the things that will help me getter better overall. I also want to talk to coach Muschamp.”
