Florida leads for Chandler Cox

Fullback Chandler Cox (6-2, 220 Apopka, FL) and offensive lineman Martez Ivey, a pair of class of 2015 prospects, seem to be running into Florida assistant coaches a lot lately in the halls of Apopka High School.

“Coach (Coleman) Hutzler and Coach (Kurt) Roper both came by on Monday to visit myself and Martez,” Cox said. “Coach Hutzler and Coach (Mike) Summers came by last Friday too. Monday’s visit went really good they both came and said Hi to us. They can’t really talk to us much but he said he would talk to us more at junior day this Saturday. “

This Saturday when Cox visits Florida with his family for junior day he has an idea of what he expects from the visit to Gainesville.

“I really want to see the campus because I’ve already seen the facilities like the weight room and locker room already,” Cox said. “My mom is coming with me so she wants to meet the coaches and go around the campus and see the academics.”

Despite not being able to talk to Roper in-person on Monday he says that he has talked to Roper before and the new offensive coordinator has explained how Cox would fit into the new offense at Florida.

“In the past Coach Roper has told me that they are working the offense around an H-back like myself,” Cox said. “He said that he would show me more about the offense on Saturday at junior day when he can show us film and draw some things up for me.”

Cox says that while he doesn’t want to make an early decision he does have an early leader.

“Florida is my leader,” Cox said. “I grew up a Florida fan since I was younger. I grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah but I was still a Gators fan out there.”

A lot of things factor into Cox calling the Gators his leader but he says the family atmosphere is one of the top factors.

“The tradition at Florida stands out to me plus the coaches there are great,” Cox said. “When I make my decision it will be based on my relationship with the coaches and Florida has great coaches. When I up there I always have a good feeling about things there.”
