Florida Gators visit 2016 quarterback

Last week the Florida Gators coaching staff spent three days out on the road recruiting not only the Class of 2015 but also several under classmen as well.

One of the prospects that offensive coordinator Kurt Roper visited was 2016 quarterback Matt Dame (6-2, 172, Riviera Beach, FL Suncoast) who is looking to earn a Florida Gators offer.

“It went good with Coach Roper and it nice to see him on Friday,” Dame said. “He couldn’t talk to me personally because I’m an underclassmen but he talked to my coach for about 30 minutes about me.”

One of the things Roper talked to Dame’s coach about was getting the 2016 quarterback back on campus again so Roper could sit down and talk to Dame personally.

“He said he wants me to come back down a little after the season so that he has more time to talk,” Dame said. “He wants to sit down with me and watch my junior film and he wants to evaluate my film with the other coaches. Coach Roper also said that I was invited to any game this season.”

Dame has already been in Gainesville once this season and that was when the Gators hosted the Kentucky Wildcats in September.

“It was a great visit and I got to talk to Coach Roper for like 30 minutes before the game in his office,” Dame said. “The atmosphere there was incredible, it’s amazing how into the game the fans get. I was really impressed with that.”

During the conversation between Roper and Dame the Gators offensive coordinator talked to Dame about how he would fit into the offense.

“I think I fit in pretty well because I’m athletic,” Dame said. “I’m not a quarterback that will make a 80-touchdown run but I’m athletic and I look to throw first and if that’s not there I can by all means get out of trouble with my legs; so I believe that the kind of offense that Coach Roper runs and who he wants his quarterback to be like.”

While Dame is still looking for an offer from Florida he has already picked up an offer from Miami.

INSIDERS TAKE: Dame is athletic quarterback that has good arm strength and is one of the top instate guys for the 2016 class. Florida is continuing to watch him closely before they offer.
