Florida Gators softball preview vs. Alabama this weekend

The No. 1 ranked Florida Gators softball team brings its 33-1 (8-1 conference) record into another top 10 matchup in Gainesville this weekend.

This weekend the Gators host the No. 6 Alabama Crimson Tide, who always prove to be a tough opponent for the Florida Gators.

Florida enters this weekend’s series with a school best 33-1 record, the best record in the SEC this year.

Here’s the schedule for this weekend’s game and all games will be broadcasted

  • #1 Florida vs. #6 Alabama on Saturday at 3:30 P.M on ESPN2
  • #1 Florida vs. #6 Alabama on Sunday at 1:00 P.M on ESPN3

 

That’s a look at this weekend’s games but let’s dig a little deeper into this weekend’s opponent in our scouting report. Here’s a quick scouting report on the Florida Gators softball team as well.

Scouting the Florida Gators:

Florida enters this weekend with a .984 fielding percentage, which is the best in the country. The Gators also lead the country with a 0.78 ERA between its three pitchers including SEC pitcher of the week Aleshia Ocasio.

The Gators enter this weekend’s series with the nations third best on-base percentage (.464) and the 15th best batting average in the country (.336).

Sophomore Kayli Kvistad leads the Gators with a .420 batting average and also leads the Gators with 35 RBI’s this year. Senior Kelsey Stewart had a good weekend against LSU and the Gators will look for her to continue that hot streak. Stewart enters play on Friday with a .352 batting average and 11 stolen bases lead the team.

Freshman Amanda Lorenz continues to hit the ball well and is hitting .396 and leads the team with nine doubles this year while driving in 28 runs.

In the circle the Gators trio of Kelly Barnhill, Delanie Gourley and Aleshia Ocasio are dominating opposing batters this year by only allowing a .150 average against them. Ocasio enters the series with the best ERA in the nation at 0.36 and Gourley who has a 0.76 ERA follows her closely. Barnhill leads the Gators with 106 strike outs on the year and the freshman is 11-0 this year.

Scouting the Alabama Crimson Tide:

Alabama enters conference play with a 29-6 record (3-3 in conference) and a 5-3 record on the road.

Haylie McCleney leads the Crimson Tide with a .481 batting average including two home runs and an on-base percentage of .619. Marisa Runyon leads Alabama with seven homeruns this year while Leona Lafaele leads the Crimson Tide with 36 RBI’s on the year. Alabama as a club is hitting .331 with 30 home runs on the year.

In the circle Alabama is lead by Sydney Littlejohn who is 12-2 with a 1.65 ERA in 18 appearances this year. Madi Moore is a perfect 9-0 on the year with a 1.86 ERA in 12 appearances.
