Florida Gators recruiting notebook: January 23rd edition recapping latest offers

It has been a busy start to the week for the Florida Gators as the coaches are out on the road again and while they’re seeing several 2018 prospects, they’re seeing an offering many underclassmen.

With the early signing period now in effect, it has given coaches around the country the chance to start working on underclassmen and the Gators have taken full advantage of that.

GatorCountry will recap the offers that were extended by the Gators so far this week in this recruiting notebook.

2019 quarterback offers

On Monday, the Gators extended two more quarterback offers for the 2019 class including one instate prospect and one out of state player.

2019 QB David Baldwin (6-4, 215, Bradenton, FL. IMG) transferred into Florida from California. Baldwin says he plans to visit Florida now and he has seen his recruitment blow up.

2019 QB Sam Howell (6-1, 217, Monroe, NC. Sun Valley) has been on a roll lately in picking up offers. Howell picked up Georgia and Ohio State offers last week as well.

USF safety commit La’Darius Henry (6-3, 175, St. Petersburg, FL. Gibbs)

Athlete Jerjuan Newton (6-0, 170, Clearwater, FL. Central Catholic)

Offensive lineman Howard Allen (6-5, 266, Jacksonville, FL. Baldwin) already has offers from the likes of Alabama and Auburn.

Receiver Chris Scruggs Jr (6-2, 175, Clearwater, FL. Superior Collegiate Academy)

Offensive lineman Ethan White (6-5, 315, Clearwater, FL. Superior Collegiate Academy)

Athlete Trent McDuffie (5-11, 175, Bellflower, CA. St. John Bosco) already has offers from Notre Dame, USC and Michigan.

Running back Darrin Smith (5-8, 178, Frisco, TX. Lone Star)

Miami athlete commit Marcus Crowley (6-1, 200, Jacksonville, FL. Trinity Christian) plays both running back and linebacker at Trinity Christian.

Miami linebacker commit Jesiah Pierre (6-2, 220, Mount Dora, FL. Christian Home and Bible School) who also puts his hand down as a defensive end at times.

Offensive lineman Julius Buelow (6-7, 282, Kapolei, HI. High) was offered when coach John Hevesy was on the island on Monday.

Linebacker Nana Osafo-Mensah (6-4, 227, Fort Worth, TX. Nolan Catholic) has offers from Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma among many others.

Mississippi State athlete commit Diwun Black (6-3, 180, Forest, MS. High) really likes Dan Mullen but seems pretty solid to Mississippi State. 

2020 offers

The 2019 class wasn’t the only class getting offers this week as several 2020 offers were also extended.

Defensive tackle Jerzhan Newton (6-3, 230, Clearwater, FL. Central Catholic) is the younger brother of Jerjuan Newton who as also offered on Monday.

Running back Jayion McCluster (6-1, 190, Largo, FL. High) is the cousin of former Ole Miss athlete Dexter McCluster.

Athlete Keyvone Lee (6-2, 205, Clearwater, FL. Superior Collegiate Academy) who has offers from Kentucky, Mississippi State and Ohio State.

Cornerback Fred Davis (6-1, 168, Jacksonville, FL. Trinity Christian Academy) who already has offers from Alabama, Miami, South Carolina among others.

Cornerback Miles Brooks (6-2, 171, Jacksonville, FL. Trinity Christian Academy) has a South Carolina offer already.
