Florida Gators Recruiting: Mailbag September 25

With the team idle on the field this week it means the Florida Gators recruiting efforts will be intensified.

Most fans want to know how the Alabama game affected recruiting and whether or not it’s time to worry about some targets.

Here are this week’s questions:

FrankGator627: Do you see any of the previous decommitments making their way back into the class? If so, who?

AS: The only one that really has talked to Florida and has shown interest is Georgia safety commit Deontai Williams of Trinity Christian High School. Florida has started to show more interest in him and he’s been on campus for two games already this season so he’s someone to watch.

MrB-Gator: AS…what is the rest of the LB board?

AS: The top three guys on the board right now are Jeffery Holland, Roquan Smith and Tevon Coney and those guys are closely followed by Derrick Graham, who Florida sees as an outside linebacker.

15gator05: AS do the recruits ever talk to Jeremy Foley when they are on campus or is that prohibited?

AS: Yes, Florida lets its recruits talk to Foley. Recruits are allowed to talk the AD and to the president of the university during visits. It usually happens during the summer or during official visits.

Gator_nica: So, everything still groovy as it was pre-Bama game, or should we start worrying?

AS: I’m not going to say everything is groovy. I think kids watched the game and may be a little worried, but one game will not determine a school for a kid. I’m not going to say you should worry right now because Florida still has 8 regular season games left.

Pan: Is Adonis Thomas now a soft commit? We need linebackers! I see we have young inexperienced guys at safety not playing, do they have the talent to step up in which case the depth at the position should be good or should be be looking harder for a safety commit in this class.

AS: Thomas has always been a soft commit since he committed because he wants to take visits to both Alabama and Florida this fall. At safety the inexperienced guys are young and talented and that’s why Florida is only looking to land one safety in this class.

Rippedgator: Outside of the two Davis’s, who would be the next likely to commit?

AS: linebacker Tevon Coney is deciding in October so he could be the next guy to make a decision as well.

Swampie: Is this the usual number of commits for the Gators at this time of year? How come it seems every year we get a slow start numbers wise while most teams seem to just take off and get near their maximum?

AS: The Florida Gators usually have more right now but they are in for a lot of big names and they want to wait until they see how the season goes. Florida usually starts off pretty fast too but this year was different.

Wesstump: Who do you think we will have the best chance with at the TE and WR positions?

AS: I think Florida sticks with the two guys they have at tight end right now. I think they add Ryan Davis, Javarius Davis and Antonio Callaway at the receiver position right now.

Genesis: Any of our commits or targets having huge senior years on the field?

AS: Derrick Dillon has over 300 yards rushing and nine touchdowns through three games this year so I think that’s a good year so far.

Easypeasey: An confirmed visitors of UF interest coming to see us play at TN in two weeks?

AS: I haven’t started checking yet because they have a game this weekend but I’m sure there will be a handful of guys that have interest in Florida at the game.

Easypeasey: What’s the latest with Jalen Merrick, Tim Irvin, and the JUCO CB Justin Martin? Just a couple I haven’t heard much about recently.

AS: Merrick had a good trip to Florida State but still says he’s waiting awhile to decide. Tim Irvin says he wants to take official visits before making a decision and Justin Martin can’t take any official visits until January.

Easypeasey: UF handed out an offer to a Texas Tech RB commit this week. What’s the word on him and Hines on the RB board? Also could you make a list of RB board in the order that the coaches like them?

AS: He’s not solid to Texas Tech and he’s a real fast guy but I haven’t talked to him yet but plan to do so soon. Nothing new on Nyheim Hines except he wants to visit Florida soon.
