The Florida Gators have won two straight games and have also shown an improvement on offense behind the play of quarterback Treon Harris.
Gator Country members are hoping this recent string of good play will help the Florida Gators in recruiting and in this week’s recruiting mailbag a lot of the questions have to do with how the Gators are faring on the offensive side of the ball.
Here’s this week’s mailbag
Kdm: Seems like South Carolina is setting up to be a huge recruiting weekend with lots of visitors and the likelihood that a win keeps Muschamp in Gainesville for at least another year. Any chance that some commitments start to trickle in if we have a good showing? Are there any guys who could pop after the game?
AS: I think this game could help get the momentum going in the right direction but as far as anyone committing after the game, I think that right now the odds are against that happening until Muschamp is insured that he’s coming back to Florida next year. In recruiting anything can happen though and with Jeremy McDuffie possibly visiting he could easily pop.
G8trsnapper: We felt good about the possibility of eventually turning Ray Ray before things went south. With a win over SC and a win or at least a respectable offensive showing with FSU, what are our chances with Ray Ray? and, if good with Ray Ray, any chance of turning Deon Cain with an offensive turn around?
AS: Right now things aren’t as good with Ray-Ray McCloud as they once were because of the season so far but the good thing is that he’s still communicating and showing interest in the Florida Gators. McCloud would help with Cain if that was to happen though.
Macbgator: Are we still in good shape for OL Isaiah Prince?
AS: Prince still says he’s going to visit Florida but right now the Gators are behind teams like Alabama and Maryland but if he visits like he says than I think Florida could get back in the top group.
Dopplegangerg8r: Is Tevon Coney solid to Notre Dame or can we flip him?
AS: He’s solid to Notre Dame but he’s still communicating with the Florida Gators but right now a possible flip isn’t happening until things are settled with Muschamp.
Gator_nica: What is the vibe among recruits with Treon starting at QB?
AS: Recruits love Treon and are excited about what he’s doing and that’s helping Florida with a lot of guys but he needs to continue show how good he is. This weekend the Gators get Antonio Callaway to visit and that’s a start.
Jyork: Do you think the Orr situation can have a negative impact on recruiting?
AS: Absolutely not because kids love a coach that has their back but they also know that you can’t quit on your team. I doubt you hear any kids even mention the situation.
MrB-Gator: AS…..any Juco linemen that look good for us (and can be here for spring ball)?
AS: Martinas Rankin is a big JUCO offensive lineman that plans to visit Florida and the Gators are in the mix with him right now. Right now he’s the only one that Florida has a shot with after Jamal Danley cancelled his official visit.
Macbgator: Who are our top TE prospects and what are our chances of signing them. Is commit Knight a legimate TE prospect??
AS: Knight is a legit tight end prospect and someone Florida will hold on too. Daniel Imatorbhebhe and Devonaire Clarington are two guys that Florida is after right now and the Gators have a good shot with both of them but will only likely take one of them barring a decommitment from someone else.
Macbgator: What does our LB board look like and who do we have a good chance of getting??
AS: Adonis Thomas is still looking very hard at Florida and I think the Gators can get him back in the class. Roquan Smith is also still looking at Florida pretty hard as is Miami linebacker commit Charles Perry.
Macbgator: What are our chances with Q. Boulware, offensive lineman out of Washington, D.C.?
AS: Quarvez Boulware told me on Sunday that he will likely visit in December but right now the chances aren’t good here.
It appears, based on your notes here, that recruiting has taken a huge hit. We all knew that was highly probable based on Florida’s implosion. If Muschamp stays, he might secure a few of these guys, but we really do need offensive players, right? Would we be any better off if he turns it around or would it be better if Muschamp got canned and we started all over? Either way, it almost appears it’ll take a while to rebuild and resurrect. After four years of pain and anguish I’m not sure I care either way…I just want good times to return. I also want the players to reap the rewards of their efforts and be coached up correctly. It’s amazing how one or two really good players can turn around a program. I actually feel worse for Muschamps kids than anything. May the winning continue. Maybe it’s in Gods hands. Go Gators.
I’m surprised about Danley, it was less than a week ago that he was planning on coming. Perhaps Oklahoma told him that his place in their class might disappear if he went to Gainesville. It wouldn’t be the first time that a school became unhappy with a commit taking a visit. Five star guys can get away with it, those lower on the pecking order do so at the risk of losing their spot. I think we saw last year that FSU got peeved at C.J. Worton and things became very frigid in a heartbeat when he started to flirt with Florida. It became an iceberg when he tweeted one of their top targets, Travis Rudolph, about coming to Gainesville.
