Florida Gators offer Oklahoma lineman

Stop me if you’ve heard this lately.

The Florida Gators offered another offensive lineman on Wednesday when running backs coach Tim Skipper called offensive lineman Riley Daniel (6-6, 310, Ringling, OK High) on the phone.

“The running backs coach, Coach Skipper just called me yesterday and offered me a scholarship to Florida,” Daniel said. “He said that he, the head coach and the offensive line coach had watched my film and they liked it so they decided to offer me a scholarship. The line coach and the head coach were out so that’s why the running backs coach called.”

When Skipper called Daniel on Wednesday the message was simple, the Gators need bodies on the line.

“Coach Skipper said that they see me as a tackle at Florida,” Daniel said. “He said that they only had seven on scholarship for next year so they need more guys to come in and contribute.”

It is less than two weeks before signing day so it may seem late for Florida to get in the mix but Daniel says that isn’t the case at all.

“It would be too late if it was a staff that had been there the whole time but since they are a new staff it isn’t too late for Florida,” Daniel said. “Florida is a school that I’m definitely going to look into and try and learn more about.”

Since Florida has shown interest in Daniel the offensive lineman will now show interest in Florida as he will be in Gainesville soon.

“I set up an official visit to Florida on January 30th,” Daniel said. “I’ve got a Baylor official this weekend and I went to Texas Tech last weekend. I’m probably going to make my decision after I finish all of my official visits and right now I would say Tech and Baylor are my leaders.”

INSIDERS TAKE: Florida has a lot of ground to make up here but the one good thing is that Daniel is open to learning more about Florida and the opportunity to play early is there. One thing is that Daniel said is that his parents don’t go on official visits with him so that could hurt Florida here.
