Florida Gators offer linebacker Yulee

The Florida Gators only signed one linebacker in the class of 2015 after not signing one in the class of 2014, which means there is a huge need to sign linebackers this recruiting cycle.

On Saturday the Gators offered one of the top linebackers in the country in linebacker Jaquan Yulee (6-1, 239, Chesapeake, VA Indian River) who was excited to hear the news.

“My coach called me on Saturday and told me that Florida had offered me a scholarship,” Yulee said. “It means a lot to me to get the Florida offer. I have been getting a lot of offers lately but to get an offer from Florida and Florida State, it means a lot because they are some of the best teams out there.”

Yulee, who is from Virginia, says that he doesn’t know too much about Florida but he will do his research soon.

“I really don’t know too much about Florida right now but I plan to start looking them up,” Yulee said. “I know when Tim Tebow was there that Florida was really good and won a championship but that’s kind of all I know about them.”

Yulee hasn’t had the chance to meet any of Florida’s new coaching staff but he does have a connection to one of the Gators new quality control coaches.

“I haven’t gotten a chance to meet any of the new coaches yet but I know one of the new assistant coaches at Florida (Mark DeBastiani) who was at Norfolk State and his son played football with me,” Yulee said. “I plan to get down there and meet everyone though.”

Yulee says now that he has an offer from Florida he plans to get down for unofficial visit and that visit could happen soon.

“My coach said that he’s going to try and take me down there next month,” Yulee said. “I want to see the campus and see how the school works and how the education program is down there. Of course I want to meet everyone too.”

Despite never visiting Florida or not knowing much about the Gators, the linebacker says that he has three leaders including the Orange and Blue.

“Florida, Florida State and Alabama are leading for me,” Yulee said. “A lot of schools are calling me and throwing in their two cents and [their] message to me but that’s about it.”

INSIDERS TAKE: Florida actually has a good shot here from what I’ve been told by some people in Yulee’s area. Yulee sees a big time need for linebackers at Florida but the Gators just need to get him on campus this spring to meet everyone.
