Florida Gators offer excites Alabama athlete

The Florida Gators continue to look to improve the offensive side of the ball with more speed and athleticism, as head coach Jim McElwain his second year in Gainesville.

On Tuesday the Gators extended an offer to a player that fits that bill when they offered athlete Kadarius Toney (5-11, 185, Prichard, AL Blount) over the phone.

“Coach [Tim] Skipper was the one that told me about the offer,” Toney said. “He said a lot of things really. He said that they were offering me as an athlete because they were going to put in a wildcat package so I could play some quarterback there. He said that I would be a good fit at Florida. I’m excited about the offer.”

Toney, who plays quarterback in high school, wasn’t upset to hear the word athlete from Skipper on Tuesday.

“I know I can play a lot of positions, so that wasn’t no biggie to me,” he said of the offer as an athlete. “I just prefer quarterback in college because I feel like I can handle it to be honest. Him saying athlete is nothing new to me though, and I still have a lot of interest in Florida.”

The Alabama athlete has never visited the Gators before but Toney did share one thing that he knows about the Florida Gators.

“I know that they have a good defense, I don’t really know too much about the offense,” Toney said. “I haven’t gotten to watch a lot of Florida game or anyone because I just watch the games that come on TV. I don’t watch just a particular team or anything.”

Toney also spoke to his head coach, Lev Holly, about the offer and the Blount head coach shared some positive things about the Gators.
“Coach Holly has told me that Florida is a good team to look at,” he said. “He said that I should really put them on my list of colleges to attend and that I got to go check them out and check out the facilities and all of that.”

The Florida Gators offer was a game changer on Tuesday, as the Gators are now a team that has the athlete’s attention.

“My top three schools are South Carolina, Florida and LSU so far,” Toney said. “I like LSU because of the education, values, and its defense. South Carolina was the first school to offer me, so I have to show them interest. Florida is just that I like Florida really, I’ve never been to Gainesville but I want to experience that.”

INSIDERS TAKE: Running backs coach Tim Skipper plans to visit Toney this spring and Toney is expected to visit Gainesville this summer. Toney is one of those guys that is just a pure athlete that you want on your football team. Toney is a guy that can play several positions on offense.
