The Florida Gators offer Ancrum on Monday

The Florida Gators have been offering underrated players the last few days and on Monday the Gators offered sleeper defensive end Luke Ancrum (6-5, 240, Sebring, FL High) a scholarship to Florida after defensive line coach Terrell Williams met him.

“Coach Williams, the defensive line coach, came by school today [Monday] and offered me a scholarship to Florida,” Ancrum said. “He said congratulations you have an offer from Florida and we would like for you to visit the Gators.”

During the visit Williams explained what the Gators were looking from Ancrum and what kind of player they thought he could be.

“He said that I have just to come in and work hard and compete for a spot on the defensive line,” Ancrum said. “Coach Williams said that he wants me as a rush end because I can get to the quarterback.”

Williams, who is relatively unknown as a recruiter right now, also told Ancrum about his past and what his resume looked like.

“He was telling me about the team, what they currently have and about the academics at Florida,” Ancrum said. “He was telling me more about himself and where all he has coached at and who he has coached. He has really coached a lot of great players and he seems like a good guy. I like that he has coached in the NFL.”

The Gators will now have their chance to put the full court press on Ancrum this weekend as the Ancrum family will be in Gainesville.

“I’m taking an official visit to Florida this weekend,” Ancrum said. “I’m taking the visit because Florida is a big offer to receive. I’m blessed to get the offer and it shows how hard I’ve worked for this offer. Florida is a big time school.”

Ancrum says that while it’s late in the process for a new offer he’s taking a look at Florida because of the prestige of the program and he will decide shortly after his visit.

“They came in late but its Florida, so I’m looking hard at them,” Ancrum said. “I want to announce my decision on Monday or Tuesday next week. My parents are coming on the visit with me so I want to talk them about everything after the visit.”

INSIDERS TAKE: If Florida gives him a green light this weekend then I would think the Gators have a great shot here. Ancrum is a very raw player but is someone that has a good upside as is athletic enough to grow into a contributor at Florida.”

  1. I don’t know if i like what all the offers (and the commit of Zuniga) is forecasting. It just seems like the coaching staff isn’t confident about cece and Byron. We need both of those guys! I guess we’ll see. I think we’re in good shape with Cece though, but Byron is playing the game right now for sure.

    • The Gator coaches know what many good and loyal Gator fans cannot yet accept. Byron Cowart, CeCe Jefferson, and the Hollard kid not likely to Gator recruits. On paper at least, this will be the weakest recruiting class in recent Gator history. And, do not blame McElwain and his staff. The blame tests squarely with Jeremy Foley. Muschamp did the best he could. He should never have been a head coach at what was, at the time, a high-quality football program.

    • The key is that McElwain is going to be left without any back up plans. Muschamp was the worst and having no backup plans and that isn’t the case this year.
