Florida Gators offer a 2016 receiver

Jim McElwain and the Florida Gators are looking to sign a big group of receivers in the class of 2016 after just inking two the past recruiting cycle.

McElwain and his staff wasted no time getting out a new offer to receiver Binjimen Victor (6-4, 175, Coconut Creek, FL High) who received the news from his high school coach on Monday.

“Florida offered me on Monday morning,” Victor said. “Coach Kirk [Callahan] called my coach and told him about the offer. Coach Kirk has been down to my school and has been evaluating me and everything before so I knew him and have met him already. Coach Kirk just called today and told my coach that they were ready to offer.”

Victor, who now has over 30 scholarship offers, calls the offer from Florida a big one due to the prestige of the program.

“It means a lot to get an offer from Florida because it’s close to home,” Victor said. “It’s a great school and Florida has a great team. They are going to get better each and every year now.”

In January when the coaching staff was out visiting 2015 prospects, two coaches stopped by to see Victor in-person. Due to NCAA rules they were unable to have a conversation with him.

“They came by during January when they were looking at other players but I couldn’t talk them so it was just a hey and bye kind of thing,” Victor said. “Coach Callahan and one of the other coaches came by. I can’t remember his name right now, but Coach Callahan was a cool guy.”

Over the next few months Victor plans to return the favor as he wants to vist Gainesville to meet everyone.

“I’ve never visited Florida before, but I plan to visit either this spring or this summer,” Victor said. “I don’t really know too much about Coach McElwain but we’ve talked a couple of times so I just want to meet him on the visit. He seems like a cool dude though. I know that Coach McElwain coached Amari Cooper so that’s something that has my attention.”

One school that Victor knows a lot about is Miami, but the 2016 receiver says that they aren’t his leader.

“I grew up watching Miami a lot,” Victor said. “I don’t have any leaders right now and nobody is sticking out to me right now. I really don’t have any kind of order or anything.”

INSIDERS BUZZ: Victor was very excited talking about McElwain’s past and how he recruited Amari Cooper. Miami seems to have the inside track here but Victor continues to say that nobody leads for him.
