Florida Gators make a big impression on Turner

On Thursday, the Florida Gators coaching staff hosted a visitor on campus before they started spring practice on Friday.

That visitor was offensive lineman Charles Turner (6-4, 265, Bradenton, FL. IMG) who got to see a lot of things during the visit.

“It was a great visit,” Turner said of his visit on Wednesday. “I got to see their educational aspects of things, I got to see their facilities which were beautiful. I heard they should be getting all new facilities within the next year or so. I got to see the Swamp which was also beautiful.”

Turner had the chance to meet all of the new coaching staff including head coach Dan Mullen.

“I talked to Coach Mullen and Coach [John] Hevesy,” he said of the coaches he spoke with. “They’re amazing people and real genuine straight forward guys.”

Offensive line coach John Hevesy spoke at length with Turner about where the Gators see him fitting into the offense if he was to choose Florida for college.

“He said he sees me playing center for him,” Turner said of Hevesy’s message to him. “He also thinks I’m athletic enough to play tackle but he wants me at center in college.”

Mullen also spoke to Turner about why the Gators are a good play for the offensive line and what the Gators could potentially do in the years to come.

“He was just telling me that they’re building something special,” he said of Mullen’s message to him. “He said that Florida is a good place to get a good education and potentially compete for a national championship. And I noticed he cares for all of his guys, he was running around coaching up every position with great energy.”

After the visit, Turner had a lot of good things to say about Florida but wasn’t ready to name any leaders.

“It’s a long process but the visit was great,” Turner said on if he had any leaders. “Florida made a great impression on me.”

INSIDERS TAKE: Turner really enjoyed his visit to Florida on Wednesday and says he plans to return to Gainesville. Turner projects as a center at the next level.
