Florida Gators give Dinson something to think about

Kentucky cornerback commit Jeremiah Dinson (5-11, 165, Hialeah, FL American) was one of seven official visitors on campus last weekend for the Florida Gators.

During that visit Dinson and his family received the red carpet treatment and were shown everything Florida has to offer.

“It was good, it went well,” Dinson said. “I got to walk around the campus, go in the locker room and the weight room. I got to see pretty much everything they had to offer while I was there. I even got to go see some of the classrooms and meet the academic people.”

This was the weekend for the new Gators coaching staff to host prospects but Dinson says he didn’t get the feeling that they were new to each other.

“My impression of the coaching staff was good, it’s a new staff but they seemed like they have been together for years,” Dinson said. “Those guys were really bonding well together and they treated us great during the visit. They all seem like great coaches and people.”

Most of these coaches are new to the area so prospects were just meeting them for the first time but two Florida coaches were very familiar to Dinson.

“Coach Callahan and Coach Shannon are two guys that I knew from when they were at UCF and Arkansas,” Dinson said. “They didn’t really talk too much about football with me but we just had a casual talks about life because we’re comfortable with each other. They did tell me that they wanted me.”

Defensive coordinator Geoff Collins had never met Dinson until last Friday but the first impression was a good one according to Dinson.

“Coach Collins was telling me that he was glad that I came up for a visit and that he needs me at Florida,” Dinson said. “He was telling me about all of the coverage’s they run and the different schemes that he has in place for next year. I thought we had great talks. Coach Collins said that he thinks I can play corner or nickel but he said that he knows that I’ll find a spot on the field.”

This was also the first time for Dinson and his parents to meet Jim McElwain and it went well between the two parties.

“Coach McElwain was saying that he wants me bad and he was wanting to know when I was deciding and stuff like that,” Dinson said. “He was just telling me that he has big plans for Florida and he was telling my parents that he would take care of me.”

Next up for Dinson is a trip to see the Gators former coach and rival SEC school as the Kentucky cornerback commit winds down his recruitment.

“I’m going to Auburn this weekend and I’m not sure if I’ll take another one or not,” Dinson said. “If I don’t go anywhere on the 30th then I’ll announce next week. Right now I’m still committed to Kentucky but Florida gave me a lot to think about because my family would like for me to stay instate.”

INSIDERS TAKE: Auburn needs a home run visit out of Dinson this weekend or the South Florida prospect will be tough to keep away from Gainesville. Randy Shannon has done a great job here and Kirk Callahan is also doing a nice job on recruiting Dinson.
