Florida Gators defeat New Mexico State 61-13

The Florida Gators (1-0) got the Jim McElwain era underway in a big way on Saturday night against New Mexico State (0-1) in the Swamp.

Offense was the storyline in the game as the Gators had 14 different players catch passes and ten different ball carriers in the game. Florida had 606 total yards in the game with 382 of those yards through the air.

  1. I know a lot of us will point to the 60+ we put up in the game opener last year and say …”yeah, but look at the competition”. That aside, I feel a ton more comfortable this year in the offensive direction than I did last season. Both QBs looked very good. Will looks like Driskel potential without the mental collapses…and Treon, while limited with his arm, looks very comfortable. Mac has a big decision on his hands. The defense looks like it COULD be elite, but I would give the unit a B+ after giving up a few big plays 1st half. And you have to be encouraged with 13 different receivers….and oh my god, we have tight ends involved this year.

    How about the OL? Much Better than I expected, but still skeptical. …and 1 penalty??? That’s unusual. I’m more optimistic than I was a year ago. Things should be better.
