Facing Felonies, Deiondre Porter suspended from Florida Gators

The Florida Gators have suspended cornerback Deiondre Porter after the redshirt freshman was arrested on Wednesday morning on five charges, including aggravated battery (Second Degree Felony), two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent (Third Degree Felony), firing a weapon-missile into a dwelling, vehicle and damage to property-criminal mischief.

Jim McElwain announced that Porter would be immediately suspended from all team activities.

“He’s no longer with the football team,” McElwain said on the SEC teleconference. “He’s suspended indefinitely for obviously a choice. It was his choice not to be with us. It’s one of those things that we obviously don’t condone.”

The police report obtained by Gator Country states that on September 29, Porter confronted his girlfriend — who is 10 weeks pregnant — about being involved with another member of the Florida Gators football team. The reports says that when confronted by Porter, the alleged victim retreated to her bedroom, at which point Porter followed her into the room, brandished a firearm and placed it to her head, demanding that the alleged victim tell him the truth. She made numerous attempts to contact the teammate in question.

Unable to reach the third party the two went to sleep and the disagreement continued the next morning at approximately 7:15 AM.

The alleged victim continued to deny that she had a relationship with Porter’s teammate. Porter “became enraged”, pacing back and forth. The victim then alleges that she saw Porter abruptly raise his arm with the firearm and fire it in her direction, with the bullet striking the wall near where she was standing. Porter left the premises but a .45 caliber shell casing was found under a chair in the living room and a bullet hole was found in the wall.

Police contacted Porter the following day (9/30/15) when Gainesville Police stopped a car that he was a passenger in. Upon searching the car the driver was found to have a .45 caliber handgun.

Porter is being held at the Alachua County Jail on a bond of $160,000 according to records. The Gainesville Police Department will hold a press conference at 2:30 today to detail the case.

UPDATED: 4:54 PM — WEDNESDAY

Officer Ben Tobias of the Gainesville police department told reporters on Wednesday that the alleged victim did not initially report the incident to police because of  fear. “She said she was scared. She was dealing with a well-known UF football player, and she was honestly terrified to come to the police and report it,” said officer Tobias.

Tobias also cleared up the traffic stop where Porter was found the following day as a passenger in a car where a .45 caliber handgun was found. The car was driven by Justin Acevedo, who was arrested for felony possession of a firearm, felony possession of cannabis and use/possession of a firearm during a felony. The gun that was found at the time was a Springfield XD 3.3 45 caliber hand gun and has been sent out to forensics to see if the bullet that was fired, along with the shell casing, at the alleged victim in Porter’s case is a match. prD 3.3 45 caliberSpringfield XD 3.3 45 caliber

  2. Nick,
Can we please this this kind of trash out of here?? It’s bad enough that he thinks F$U covering up everything that went on over there had nothing to do with those players not being charged with anything, but to go off and call one of own a cheater and moron is really just uncalled for. This person clearly has an agenda, and of which does not include anything positive about Florida. It’s sad that this is how some people act, but what is even more sad is this person probably believes every word coming out of their mouth.
    Thanks,
