Dawson, Harris, Ivey representing Florida Gators at SEC Media Days

With SEC Media Days just days away the SEC announced all 42 student-athletes that will join their 14 respective head coaches in Hoover, Alabama next week.

Jim McElwain picked three Florida Gators to accompany him and represent the University of Florida. Seniors Marcell Harris and Duke Dawson, as well as junior Martez Ivey.

This will be the first year since 2009 that the Gators aren’t featured on the first day (Monday) of the week. Florida will be up on Tuesday, along with Georgia, Vanderbilt and Mississippi State.

Harris and Dawson both played some of their best football last season and chose to return to school for their senior seasons. The trip to Hoover is a nod from McElwain, who rewarded Marcus Maye and Jarrad Davis in the same fashion last season.

Ivey, a junior, is moving to left tackle after playing mostly guard a season ago. His will also likely be the last season for the Apopka High School product, who could be a high draft pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.

Nick de la Torre
A South Florida native, Nick developed a passion for all things sports at a very young age. His love for baseball was solidified when he saw Al Leiter’s no-hitter for the Marlins live in May of 1996. He was able to play baseball in college but quickly realized there isn’t much of a market for short, slow outfielders that hit around the Mendoza line. Wanting to continue with sports in some capacity he studied journalism at the University of Central Florida. Nick got his first start in the business as an intern for a website covering all things related to the NFL draft before spending two seasons covering the Florida football team at Bleacher Report. That job led him to GatorCountry. When he isn’t covering Gator sports, Nick enjoys hitting way too many shots on the golf course, attempting to keep up with his favorite t.v. shows and watching the Heat, Dolphins and Marlins.
