Dan Mullen notebook from SEC Media Days for the Florida Gators

Dan Mullen kicked off the unofficial start to football season for the Florida Gators on Monday when he spoke at SEC Media Days in Hoover, Alabama.

Mullen hit on a lot of different topics surrounding the football team and news around college football in general.

GatorCountry brings you a quick notebook to recap what Mullen had to say to kick off SEC Media Days on Monday.

  • Mullen started his press conference by remembering “a great member of the Gator family,” in George Edmondson, Mr. Two Bits. Mullen says it will be really interesting to see the first game in the Swamp and how they pay tribute to him.
  • Mullen called Lamical Perine a dynamic player who has a great skill set and an all-around player.
  • Jabari Zuniga was next up to get praise from Mullen as he says Zuniga’s mom calls him daily to check up the defensive end’s academic progress and make sure he’s on track to graduate.
  • Lastly of the players, Mullen says Feleipe Franks is a guy who has come a long way and continues to grow. Mullen says he reaped the rewards last year of his development.
  • Mullen says it’s about competing for championships every year and having a positive attitude.
  • The excitement level for the new locker-room was something Mullen noted as the players got to see the locker room for the first time on Monday.
  • Mullen also says they hope to break ground on the football facility within the next 12 months as they continue to upgrade their facilities.
  • Mullen continued to push the message that Florida is the only school in American that’s ranked top ten in football and in the classroom last year.
  • Feleipe Franks learned to use all of his skill set and not limit himself last year according to Mullen. Mullen notes Franks ability to run the ball as well as throw it.
  • Mullen calls the UF/UM game huge to help continue momentum and calls it a big game for Florida.
  • Mullen sees both sides of the argument with whether Florida should play Georgia at a neutral site or rotate it between campuses.
