Chauncey Gardner: A Moniker Master for Florida Gators Defense

If there’s one thing Florida Gators football fans can agree on, despite the past few years of questions, it’s that the Gators defense has been statistically (and entertainingly) good. But now there’s even more ways to describe them as 2016 cornerback commit Chauncey Gardner (6’0”, 194 lbs., Cocoa) let GatorCountry.com in on the list of monikers he and new defensive coordinator Geoff Collins have come up with to describe the Gators smash mouth group of guys.

Collins taught us about “psycho defense” back in spring ball, but now Gardner has given us “chomp chomp, mob squad, & BDN.” You’ll have to watch the video below for explanations. Mere words cannot do the definitions justice in the way that Chauncey’s enthusiasm can.

There’s another thing Gator football fans can agree on, at least according to Gardner, and that’s the status of his commitment to the University of Florida, which he calls “100%.”

The Cocoa Beach native plans to take all five officials but end with Florida and Coach Jim McElwain towards the end of his high school football season because “at the end of the day everybody knows I’m gonna be a Florida Gator.”

As for ways he can make an impact next football season in Ben Hill-Griffin Stadium, Gardner (whose presence and attitude liken to that of current Gator star Vernon Hargreaves III) says he sees himself being used in a multitude of ways.

“It’s not a picky place, so [the coaches are] gonna put me in a position where I can make plays…and I just want to get out there and have fun and play ball.”
