Personable and exciting are the two words that you hear the most when describing this coaching staff for the Florida Gators and almost every prospect who visited the Gators last weekend echoed those words to Gator Country.
Athlete Korey Charles (5-10, 170, Tallahassee, FL North Florida Christian) was one of the prospects who visited Florida last weekend and he and his mother felt that exact way leaving their trip to Gainesville.
“It was a great visit, I had a good time,” Charles said. “My mom and I got a chance to meet all of the coaches and see the campus. It was a great time and we liked all of the coaches. They were real nice and respectful towards us and welcoming towards us.”
Charles had several opportunities to speak with head coach Jim McElwain on Saturday and the Gators head coach made Charles feel welcomed in Gainesville.
“Every time coach McElwain saw me he was shaking my hand and talking to me,” Charles said. “He kept saying how he was glad that I was there and that he hoped I enjoyed my time there. He said that he hoped I would become a Gator soon.”
During the visit Charles spent much of his time with his two area recruiters Mike Summers and Greg Nord and those two coaches laid out the plan for Charles.
“I sat down with coach Nord and coach Summers for a little bit,” Charles said. “They were just telling me about how they were going to recruit me hard and telling us about the program. Coach Nord was saying what he was looking for out of me this spring.”
The Gators offered Charles as an athlete and on Saturday the coaching staff kept that same message towards the Tallahassee prospect.
“Coach Nord says that he sees me fitting in on the offensive side of the ball,” Charles said. “He didn’t say a position but just said that they wanted me as an offensive athlete in the class. I met with the receivers coach, coach [Kerry] Dixon a little bit and he said the same thing to me.”
INSIDERS TAKE: Charles is someone that Florida is going to keep a close eye on this spring when they visit him and the Gators would also like to see Charles come up for a camp in June so that the staff can work with him.
