Auburn commit planning to visit Florida Gators

The Florida Gators planned its biggest recruiting weekend of the season for the game against LSU before Hurricane Matthew washed those plans away.

Auburn athlete commit Tray Bishop (6-3, 193, Dawson, GA. Terrell County) was one those guys who was supposed to be in attendance for the game after the Gators coaching staff has stayed in touch with him.

“Florida has still been talking to me a lot,” Bishop said of Florida. “They still been talking good things and about me getting down to Florida for another visit. They still been saying they want me down there.”

Head coach Jim McElwain and defensive backs coach Torrian Gray are the coaches leading the charge for Bishop.

“Coach Gray and Coach Mac are both talking to me,” he said of the coaches talking to him. “I talk to them at least once a week and every week I talk to them. I usually talk to one of them one day and the other the next day.”

Gray, who has built a good relationship with Bishop, has been explaining the need for defensive backs in this class with several guys projected to leave for the NFL.

“Coach Gray is still talking to me about me coming down and being a big part of their secondary,” Bishop said of Gray’s message. “He said that they’re going to continue to recruit me hard through signing day because they need me. He said he needs players like me and that he wants me to start out at corner and then maybe move to safety.”

McElwain like he always does, speaks with Bishop more about things off the field then he does football but the two still have good talks according to the athlete.

“I talk about everything with Coach Mac,” he said of his talks with McElwain. “We talk about football, life and just about everything. Coach Mac is a real cool guy and I like how he has his team all together.”

Bishop who hasn’t been talked about a lot since he committed to Auburn, says that he has always planned to see a game in Gainesville.

“I’ve been saying that it was my intention to get back down to Florida,” he said on why he wanted to visit Florida. “Florida is the only school in my top 3 that I haven’t been to a game at so I wanted to see it. I’m going to reschedule my visit and get down there for a game though.”

Despite being committed to Auburn, Bishop says that he still plans to keep his options open and look at two other teams as well as Auburn.

“Florida, Georgia and Auburn are my top 3 schools,” Bishop said. “I’m already committed to Auburn so I’m just evaluating everyone right now. I’m just making sure that I make the right decision so I’m looking at everyone.”

When Bishop does make it down to Gainesville for an unofficial visit, it won’t be his last visit as three schools are scheduled to get official visits.

“I’m going to take my official visits after the season is over with,” he said. “My top 3 schools are going to get official visits.”

INSIDERS TAKE: Bishop is being recruited for different positions by all three schools so it will ultimately come down to what position he wants to play. Bishop is a great athlete that could honestly play any position he wants but the Gators are pushing defensive back hard.
