Antonio Callaway’s injury status upgraded

Antonio Callaway got good news from Jim McElwain prior to the Florida Gators date with the Tennessee Volunteers on Saturday.

“You know what, he got around pretty good today,” McElwain said of his star receiver. “I’d say take him off the doubtful list and put him questionable to probable as we go.”

Jim McElwain won’t let any of his players participate in a Saturday game if they aren’t able to go in full during the Wednesday practice prior to the game. McElwain wouldn’t get into specifics but the fact that he seemed encouraged about Callaway’s progress should be an indicator to Callaway’s true status for Saturday.

“We’ll kind of see how that goes. But he’s got to be running 100 percent for us to put him out there. I know how much it means to him from that piece.”

Callaway made a name for himself last year against Tennessee. He entered the game with just four receptions for 60 yards but hauled in five catches for 112 yards, including the game winning 63-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. Callaway went on to be named a First Team Freshman All-American, leading the Gators with 678 receiving yards and four touchdowns.

He was able to play baseball in college but quickly realized there isn’t much of a market for short, slow outfielders that hit around the Mendoza line. Wanting to continue with sports in some capacity he studied journalism at the University of Central Florida. Nick got his first start in the business as an intern for a website covering all things related to the NFL draft before spending two seasons covering the Florida football team at Bleacher Report. That job led him to GatorCountry. When he isn’t covering Gator sports, Nick enjoys hitting way too many shots on the golf course, attempting to keep up with his favorite t.v. shows and watching the Heat, Dolphins and Marlins. 1. Nick, is it possible that coach Mac is playing games with Del Rio? I mean he closed practices off to the media and has said that LDR has been in the meetings and game planning and will be making the trip. Is it possible that he may play or is he for sure out?
