LSU Tigers quarterback commit visits the Florida Gators

The Florida Gators recruiting visitor’s list wasn’t full of prospects for the noon kick-off but they had several big name prospects on campus.

One of those big name prospects on the Florida Gators recruiting list was LSU Tigers quarterback commit Feleipe Franks (6-6, 203, Crawfordville, FL Wakulla) who said he enjoyed his trip to Gainesville.

“The visit and game was fun, it was good to get back down here for a game,” Franks said. “Everything about it was fun, the game was good and the atmosphere was good, just good to get back down here. I hadn’t been down here in a while.”

Franks has been to several big college football games this year including the Gators vs. LSU but he liked the crowd noise in the Swamp on Saturday.

“The atmosphere was crazy,” he said. “They were playing for the SEC championship so it was crazy. It was nice to see from the crowd.”

The game wasn’t pretty from offensive standpoint but Franks thinks a lot of Florida Gators head coach Jim McElwain and what he has done with the program in year one.

“It shows a lot that they are going to the SEC championship game,” Franks said. “It shows how Coach McElwain has turned the program around. He has done a good job with that. You can see the difference from last year to this year with the way he’s doing things. I think Coach Mac is a really good coach and he has Florida going in the right direction.”

Most prospects on the Florida Gators recruiting board have said that they’re shocked by how the season is playing for the Gators but Franks kind of saw this coming from McElwain and his staff.

“When Florida hired Coach Mac, I started to believe it,” he said when asked if he expected this. “I watched him at Colorado State and how he did things there so I knew he would bring it here. I wasn’t sure how long it was going to take but he’s definitely a good coach and he’s doing the right things. He has them going in the right direction.”

McElwain’s first visit of the bye week was to see Franks at his school and the LSU quarterback commit says that he’s hearing the same message from Mac as he does other schools.

“Coach Mac is telling me that he wants me,” Franks said. “That’s kind of what every school says but it’s good talking to Coach Mac. He’s a good guy to talk to and it’s good talking to him. I enjoy it.”

Saturday was a game that Franks was watching and he noticed that the offense was doing well and he says that he will enroll in college with motivation to work hard.

“It’s hard to say but I would definitely come in and work my butt off,” he said when asked if thinks he could play right away. “I’m going to go to any program and work my butt off but I’m not going to come in and expect to start. It takes a process.”

Franks has been committed to LSU since June of 2014 but he says that right now he’s trying to look at everything including the Florida Gators.

“I’m honestly not sure where Florida fits into the picture, that’s what I’m trying to see,” Franks said. “Everything I’m seeing at Florida is good and everything I’m seeing at LSU is good. I’m just honestly not sure right now but I’m solid to LSU and I want to see how things go.”

Saturday was the first visit for Franks to Gainesville in some time but he left the door open for another visit to Florida.

“I plan on taking some officials but I haven’t decided yet,” he said. “I just want to make sure that I’m making the right decision.”

INSIDERS TAKE: Florida is definitely gaining ground on LSU Tigers quarterback commit Feleipe Franks as of late but time is running out as Franks is an early enrollee that will enroll in January. The Gators are working hard to get him back on campus for another visit and even an official visit.
