RECRUITING: Florida OL Awaiting First Offer

 |  March 25, 2007

Fresh off the Scout.com and National High School All-Star Combine held March 17 at the Miami Dolphins training facility, Palm Beach Gardens mammoth offensive lineman Justin Green (6-4, 309) is still waiting for his first scholarship offer to come. The Big three in Florida are near the top of his list right now, but Green is going to keep his options open.

Green ran a 5.4 40-time and his 3-cone drill time of 8.3 seconds tied him for fifth best among the offensive linemen at the combine in Davie. The 3-cone drill tests players’ speed, quickness, flexibility, change of direction and body control.

He started at left tackle for the Class 6A District 7 Champion Gators last season and reportedly graded out at 82 percent on his blocking assignments. His play earned him a spot on the Class 6A All-State 3rd Team and on the All Palm Beach County team. Although Green is an excellent tackle, his head coach Kevin Fleury predicts Green will play either Guard or Center in college.

According to Coach Fleury, Green’s biggest strengths are “his size, his great pass blocking and he has very good feet.” Green echoed his coach’s thoughts but also contends that he is a very good run blocker as well.

With Green’s high school career coming to an end soon, Coach Fleury thinks there are a few areas that Green needs to improve on in order to reach his full potential. “He needs to improve his overall understanding of the game,” he said. “He is the biggest guy out there and he needs to have the drive to the run the smaller guys into the ground and show that he is a dominator.”

Green understands the importance of becoming a “dominator” and says he tries to model his game like two players, New York Jets OL D’Brickshaw Ferguson and former Miami Hurricane and current Houston Texan OL Eric Winston. He likes how Ferguson “dominates the game” and how Winston has “such quick feet.”

At this point Green has no clear-cut favorite, but said that in no particular order he is interested in Miami, Clemson, UF, UGA and FSU. Each school has something special that appeals to him.

“[I like] Miami because of the attitude they always have and I have always been a Canes fan.”

“Clemson is a program on the rise and I would like to be apart of that.”

UF interests him because “they just won a championship and they are all about business.”

UGA appeals to Green because “they are in the SEC and play in a very tough conference.”

Green likes FSU because of head coach “Bobby Bowden and the coaching staff. They run a nice program.”

He reports a 2.3 GPA but says he is working hard to improve it and expects it to rise after this year. Green has already taken the ACT and scored a 23.
