The Florida Gators only just recently entered the recruiting picture for Nashville, Tenn., forward Jalen Lindsey, but the Gators’ coaching staff made their presence felt quickly.

UF assistant coach Matt McCall offered a scholarship to the 6-foot-6, 180-pound sophomore.

“He called me and we talked about school and family for a little bit,” Lindsey said. “Then he asked if I would consider Florida and I said, ‘yes.’ He told me he likes the way I play and it could fit Florida’s type of play and he said they wanted to offer me a scholarship.”

The Florida offer gives Lindsey six scholarship offers. The Gators join offers from Alabama, Memphis, North Carolina State, Tennessee and Vanderbilt.

The sudden interest from Florida has impressed Lindsey early on in his recruitment.

“It affects my opinion a lot because I can tell that they are really interested to offer [me] so fast,” he said.

Through just observing Florida, several things stick out to Lindsey when evaluating the Gators.

“I really like Coach Donovan and I haven’t even really met him properly,” Lindsey said. “I like their style of play, the fast pace and how skilled [the players] are.”

With the offer, Lindsey expressed a lot of interest in getting down to see the program in person.

“They for sure [will get a visit],” Lindsey said.

Lindsey is averaging 18 points and 9.1 rebounds per game this season.
