Orlando (Fla.) Boone power forward Schuyler Rimmer is a name that has flown under the radar amongst basketball recruiting, but after an impressive performance at the Gator Team Camp, the Florida coaching staff have their eyes on the 2013 prospect.

The 6-foot-10, 235-pound incoming senior has had some conversations with assistant Matt McCall in the past, however, he was able to finally meat Billy Donovan in person for the first time while at the camp.

“I’ve been in contact with coach McCall for a while and this weekend I was able to talk with coach Donovan face-to-face for about 40 minutes,” Rimmer said. “Basically, he told me that he was really impressed with how I played over the weekend and that he was really interested in me,” Rimmer added. “He also talked about how they would develop me as a player and how I would fit into their system.”

Rimmer could see himself playing a similar role to current Gators power forward Erik Murphy.

“I would play a similar role to Erik Murphy,” he said. “I’d be a pick and pop forward, but I would also post up. I would have to develop a more consistent three-point shot though.”

Rimmer has felt a closer connection to the Gators coaching staff as of late, saying that his relationship with coach McCall has “really grown a lot recently.”

One thing that stuck out to Rimmer about Donovan was his honesty.

“He said if I went to Florida, I might not be able to play immediately because of transfers,” Rimmer said. “I was impressed with how honest and upfront he was.”

The Orlando standout acknowledged that the question of immediate playing time doesn’t hurt Florida because he is looking for a school for the long term.

No scholarship offer was extended to Rimmer, but Donovan told him that he just wanted to see him on the AAU circuit before he offered.

As for another trip to Gainesville, Rimmer wants to visit again sometime this summer.

“I’m going to try to get up there for an unofficial visit before I go back to school [in August],” he said.
