Chris Davenport still high on Gators

 |  March 5, 2012  |  1 Comment

Class of 2013 prospect Chris Davenport had plans on visiting Florida this weekend for the regular-season finale against the Kentucky Wildcats, but was unable to make the trip to Gainesville because of transportation issues.

Although he did not attend the game, the Montverde (Fla.) Academy forward still puts Florida high on his list.

“I love Florida,” Davenport said. “It has a great atmosphere, great coaching staff and they are a winning program.”

UF coach Billy Donovan has been a huge selling point for the 6-foot-7, 195-pound prospect.

“He is a great coach,” Davenport said. “He really brings the best out of his players.”

Davenport is unsure of when he will visit Florida, but the Gators remain among a number of schools active in Davenport’s recruitment.

“Clemson, USF, Georgia Tech and Florida State are recruiting me,” Davenport said.

Only a junior, Davenport has tabbed three schools as his early favorites, and in no particular order.

“Florida, FSU and Georgia Tech,” he said.

Davenport is still in the process of evaluating several schools, but it’s the overall atmosphere and attitude of the program that catches his attention.

“[I look at] the environment and I want to go to a winning program with players that play hard and know how to win,” Davenport said.

Davenport, along with current Florida commit and point guard Kasey Hill, led Montverde Academy to a 21-3 overall record and to a No. 15 ranking in the ESPN Fab 50. The Eagles were also the highest ranked team in the state of Florida.
