Final Gators by the Numbers
Throughout this phenomenal two year run we have been giving you some of the remarkable numbers the Gator basketball team and its individual players have put up. With two NCAA Titles now in the bank Florida is forever ensconced as one of the elite teams in the history of college basketball. As a result, the final look at the most notable numbers of the past two years will be 1uite impressive. The Gators have set standards that may be difficult if not impossible for any future Florida team to live up to.
0 ----- The number of times Taurean Green fouled out in his career spanning 111 games. In fact, Green averaged fewer than two fouls per game.
1 ----- Post-season loss in the last three years. In that time Florida was 9-and-0 in the SEC Tournament and 13-and-1 in the NCAA.
2 ----- Well DUH!
3 ----- SEC Tournament Championships in the last three years. That brings Florida’s all-time total to, well three.
5 ----- Starters averaging in double figures for two straight seasons. Less than three points a game separated the highest (Green 13.3) and lowest (Humphrey 10.5) scoring Gator starter.
10 ---- Consecutive wins to end the 2006-07 season; one shy of last season’s record. Eight of the ten wins came against teams that made the NAA field.
12 ---- Consecutive NCAA Tournament victories. Only one of the games (Georgetown ’06) was decided by fewer than seven points. Florida’s four Final Four wins came by a total of 50 points with no game closer than nine.
18 ---- Consecutive post-season wins over two years. Florida swept through the SEC and NCAA Tournaments in consecutive seasons, perhaps the most impressive post-season streak in the post-Wooden era. 15 of the 18 wins were by seven points or more.
22 ---- NCAA Tournament wins for Billy Donovan. His winning percentage of .759 is second only to Mike Krzyzewski among active coaches.
29 ---- Rebounds for Al Horford in the Final Four including 17 in the semi-final win over UCLA. That’s the most since Hakeem Olajuwon snared 40 in 1983.
32 ---- Points in the Final Four by Most Outstanding Player Corey Brewer.
35 ---- Wins in the 2006-07 season, breaking last year’s UF record by two.
39 ---- Consecutive games making a three-point shot for Humphrey.
47 ---- Career three-point baskets for Humphrey in the NCAA Tournament. That’s an all-time record previously held by Duke’s Bobby Hurley.
112 --- Wins for the senior class of Humphrey and Chris Richard. That’s the most wins in any four-year period at UF.
189 --- Career blocked shots for Horford, second to Dwayne Schintzius in Gator hoops history.
288 --- Career three-point baskets for Humphrey, breaking Brett Nelson’s UF standard.
And that’s just a sampling!
