Expectations high as UF opens play

A trip to the NCAA Elite Eight last season and a preseason Top 10 ranking weren’t enough, apparently.

No. 8 Florida shot the lights out of the Stephen C. O’Connell Center in its 114-57 exhibition win against Catholic University, sending already high expectations through the roof.

As fans gathered in a renovated O’Dome for the first time to watch the basketball team, they saw bold new championship banners hanging from the rafters and couldn’t help but wonder if the new season will bring with it another banner, as the Gators exploded for 20 three-pointers.

“I think this team has a good confidence about it. Not arrogance, but it’s just confident,” senior point guard Erving Walker said. “We feel like we could be a special team.”
