Zunino homers twice in Gators win

GAINESVILLE – Mike Zunino hammered a pair of two-run homers and Hudson Randall pitched his best game of the season to lift No. 1 Florida to a 4-2 victory against Florida Gulf Coast on Wednesday night.

Zunino’s second blast landed — if it has landed yet — somewhere near the Stephen C. O’Connell Center, some 150-200 feet over the left field wall.

Zunino’s team-leading seventh home run was a no-doubter off the bat. FGCU left fielder Dane Wiseneki barely moved as it sailed over his head and the left field bleachers. The crowd of 3,001 in McKethan Stadium were whooping and hollering well before it left the yard. It caused veteran reporters to recall slugger Frank Thomas’ blast that actually hit the O-Dome when the “Big Hurt” played for Auburn.
