GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The University of Florida baseball program announced on Wednesday that sophomore Tommy Toledo (Tampa, Fla.) has undergone season-ending arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder.

“While this was difficult news for Tommy, his family and our team, we are hopeful that he will start the rehabilitation process right away,” head coach Kevin O’Sullivan said. “We are confident that Tommy will be back better than ever next year.”

Named to the SEC Freshman Academic Honor Roll, Toledo tied for third on the Gators with 11 starts and was 4-4 with a 4.40 earned run average in 15 appearances. Over 59.1 innings, the righty gave up 60 hits and 36 runs (29 earned). He permitted 32 walks, totaled 30 strikeouts and opponents batted .265 against him. Toledo worked at least five innings in his first six collegiate starts and posted a 4-1 mark and a 2.70 ERA during that stretch.

He made seven starts in Florida’s 10 Southeastern Conference series and was 2-4 with a 5.05 ERA in nine league appearances. Toledo was chosen as the SEC Freshman of the Week on March 24 after capturing the finale of the Gators’ series victory over eighth-ranked Ole Miss. He limited the Rebels to six hits and a run over a career-high seven innings on Easter Sunday afternoon as UF claimed the rubber game of the weekend series in Oxford, 10-2. The Gators had not defeated UM on the road in a series since March 28-30, 1997. In addition, the right-hander emerged victorious in his initial league start by tossing six shutout frames in the 6-2 conquest of Auburn.
