ShareNo Whitson, no problem for UF
With a mid-90s fastball, knee-buckling curveball and an improved changeup, he has the stuff to lead a top-ranked pitching staff, but Karsten Whitson hasn’t had the health to stay on the mound and match frontline pitchers Hudson Randall and Brian Johnson start for start.
The Freshman Pitcher of the Year hasn’t made an appearance since a 13-pitch outing against William & Mary on Feb. 26. Whitson left the game with what Gators coach Kevin O’Sullivan described as “early season arm trouble.”
Seventeen games later with the No. 1 Gators (23-2, 3-1) traveling to Oxford to face the No. 18 Ole Miss Rebels (18-7, 3-3), Whitson still won’t start a game during this weekend's series, which begins at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
