It took three innings for the Gators to strike back, but once they lit up the board, it was lights out for the Seminoles.

No. 4 Florida secured a 6-3 victory against No. 1 Florida State to mark its second-ever sweep of the regular-season series in front of a sold-out, over-capacity crowd of 6,730 in the confines of Tallahassee’s Dick Howser Stadium. The Gators’ first sweep over the Seminoles was in 1958.

The game didn’t look bright for Florida from its start, after FSU’s starter on the hill, right-hander Scott Sitz, shut down the top of UF’s order to ignite the Tallahassee matchup. However, Florida starter Brian Johnson was tested in the second half of the first after No. 2 hole and second baseman Devon Travis rocketed a solo homer to centerfield. Travis’ momentum carried down the order, after the Noles produced back-to-back singles from centerfielder James Ramsey and first baseman Jayce Boyd.
