ShareAustin Maddox drafted by Red Sox
The talent raid on Florida’s junior class continued on Tuesday afternoon when the 2012 Major League Baseball Draft opened back up, and another pitcher heard his name called in the early going.
The Boston Red Sox drafted Austin Maddox in the third round, with the 118th overall pick, making him the fifth junior from Florida to be selected so far.
Maddox, a 6-foot-3, 235-pound closer for the Gators, saw his stock drop somewhat in the days leading up to the draft after concerns grew about how well he has pitched since suffering an arm injury that sidelined him for two weeks late in the SEC season.
